Commencement is Dec. 21

More than 1,100 students will graduate Fall semester at St. Cloud State. Nearly 600 are expected to participate in the 2 p.m. Dec. 21 ceremony at Halenbeck Hall.

Among the graduates are international students from Iceland, Sierra Leone, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and China and domestic students from Georgia, Alaska, Tennessee, Colorado and Texas. 

Delivering the commencement address will be Tashiana Osborne '14, North St. Paul, a double-bachelor's degree graduate in Hydrology and Meteorology.

Sharing alumni remarks will be Ramon Nunez '01, a Boulder, Colo.-based advertising producer and independent filmmaker. Nunez, a former Huskies Football player, is president of the Alumni Association.

Representing the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system will be trustee Michael Vekich, CEO of a Minneapolis-based management advisory firm. The Hon. David Kleis '89 will bring greetings from the City of St. Cloud. Representing faculty will Roland Specht-Jarvis, foreign languages and cultures professor.

Campus parking lots and the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp will be free Dec. 21. Free parking on streets will be available as posted.

From noon to 5 p.m., a free Metro Bus shuttle will run a 10-minute loop to Atwood Memorial Center, 4th Avenue
Parking Ramp, ISELF and Halenbeck Hall. M Lot and a portion of R Lot, west of Halenbeck Hall, will serve persons with disability-parking needs. View the bus-route map (PDF).

The Chamber Orchestra will perform music, including Leos Janacek's "Suite for Strings" and Antonio Vivaldi's "Largo from Winter." Conducting will be Joel Salvo, instructor of music.

At St. Cloud State an A average corresponds to a 4.0 grade-point average. Undergraduate honors are:

  • Gold tassel | Summa cum laude (with highest honor) = 3.75 to 4.00
  • Silver tassel | Magna cum laude (with great honor) = 3.50 to 3.74
  • Red tassel | Cum laude (with honor) = 3.25 to 3.49
