The Sept. 17-21 St. Cloud Film Fest has St. Cloud State written all over it. The film festival, in its second year, is organized by a volunteer committee headed by John Scott '07. Among the St. Cloud State alumni presenting films are Scott, Bruce Meyers '09, Cole McDonald '10 and Brianna Deihl '03. Deihl, who double-majored in creative writing and mass communications, creates independent films via her Minneapolis-based production company, Tiny Orphans. St. Cloud State students screening films include Tyler Borresch (Sauk Rapids) and Tyler Jacobson (Annandale). Jacobson's entry, called "Blindman," is billed as a film about a budding alcoholic who finds out the hard way that sometimes his friends are jerks. It screens Tuesday night. Three nights of short film screenings -- Sept. 17-19 -- are hosted at the Pioneer Place on 5th, the entertainment venue operated by brothers Dan Barth '89 and Mark Barth '84. The festival's awards ceremony is Sept. 21 at the Paramount Theatre. The ceremony will honor the festival's best short films, screen clips from nominated films and show footage from the Aug. 31-Sept. 1 Day 4 Night 24-Hour Film Race. James Dinndorf '06, St. Cloud, is editing festival clips for awards night. Dinndorf is chief cinematographer for Scott's entry, called "Time Laps," an boldly experimental film about time travel that features a script is written as a palindrome. Serving as a festival judge is Chris Jordan, associate professor of film studies.
