University Campaign 2012
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
University Campaign, a campus-wide fundraising effort for scholarships and academic and student support programs, will run through the end of March.
This year’s theme is "Celebrating Student Success," a reminder that students always have been the focus of The University Campaign, which has raised more than $2.5 million since 1982. Last year faculty, staff and emeriti raised $195,428 and set a campaign record with a participation rate of 34 percent. Gifts from 635 faculty, staff and emeriti averaged $307.
This year a new component to the campaign is a student fundraising effort. The first student team has set a $5,000 goal which an anonymous donor has pledged to match dollar for dollar. Organizers have chosen to apply the funds they raise to an outdoor seating project.
The SCSU Foundation has more than 730 active funds that are providing support for students and programs on our campus. Last year 654 students received more than $576,000 in scholarships. Fifty-five percent of St. Cloud State’s graduates rely on student loans, with an average indebtedness of $30,315.
A fundraising goal of 37 percent participation among faculty staff and emeriti has been set. The leadership team for this campaign includes Economics Professor King Banaian and Associate Athletic Director Sue Becker leading the faculty/staff fundraising effort, and Sandra Williams, chair for emeriti gifts.
