News Release Percussion concert Nov. 22Monday, November 21, 2011
The university’s Percussion Collective will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in Ritsche Auditorium. This family-friendly performance will include Percussion Ensemble, World Drumming Group and Drumset Ensemble. There will also be a few secret guest artists performing. Performances by the Percussion Collective are filled with variety, volume and non-stop action and a range of percussion instruments is used by the performers to create unique sounds. Following the performance, guests will have a chance to go on stage to experience the various instruments used. View the event poster here (PDF). The Percussion Collective is composed of five sections – Percussion Ensemble, World Drumming Group, Improvisation Workshop, Drumset Ensemble and Mallet Ensemble, and is directed by Terry Vermillion, professor of music. Vermillion holds a Doctorate of Arts in Percussion Performance from the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) and is a board member of the MN Percussive Arts Society. Vermillion has an extensive performance background in drumset, world music, timpani and concert percussion and is in constant demand as a clinician and performer throughout the region. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. Admission is free with an SCSU ID. Tickets will be available at the door. A portion the ticket sales will fund music scholarships.
