Tuesday, April 26, 2011
Avenue 52, an up and coming band out of Los Angeles, is performing a benefit concert to raise awareness about homelessness in the U.S. The concert is at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Rum Runners downtown St. Cloud. The band will also perform a special acoustic set from noon to 3 p.m. April 28 at the Atwood Mall on the campus of St. Cloud State University.
Avenue 52 released the music video/song "Homeless," functioning as the center for its campaign and will be the featured piece at its performance. Formed in 2009, Avenue 52 is comprised of lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Tyler Aguirre; lead guitar and vocals, Sean Alexander; and drummer and background vocalist Beau Evens. Avenue 52 co-writes and produces original lyrics and music. Its sound is blend of pop melodies with rock undertones. The single “Homeless” was co-written by Sean Alexander, Drew Ryan Scott and Pascal Guyon.
Jamestown Story, a band out of Duluth, Minn., will join Avenue 52 for the performances. Jamestown Story will feature original material from their latest release “Find a Way.” Both groups will be joined by special guest Nate Flynn.
Aguirre, a former St. Cloud State student, is the lead singer of Avenue 52 and an alumnus of Delta Epsilon chapter of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity at St. Cloud State. Aguirre and current members of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity arranged the acoustic performance at St. Cloud State.
“The fraternity is excited to help support one of our alumni as he pursues his musical career,” said Michael Lerdahl, president of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. “We are thrilled to host the acoustic performance show with Tyler. This event will be a huge for Tyler and we welcome him back to SCSU.”
The Rum Runners benefit concert will include a $5 cover charge. All proceeds will be donated to United Way of Central Minnesota to benefit the homeless population of the St. Cloud area. The rainout location for the acoustic performance at St. Cloud State is the Atwood Ballroom.
