Tax protest Monday

Students Organized for Change (SOC) is co-sponsoring an April 18 tax protest at the Wells Fargo Bank location in downtown St. Cloud. 

“During these difficult economic times, when all Americans are being asked to sacrifice, it is simply wrong that Wells Fargo is shirking its American duty to pay taxes,” said Meghan Nickolauson, St. Cloud, the SOC  president. "We are protesting on Tax Day because corporate tax dodgers have a responsibility to our community and our nation to pay their fair share. We pay our taxes. Wells Fargo should too.”

Protesters will gather noon Monday at 400 1st St. S. for the "Make Them Pay Tax Day Protest" organized in cooperation with MoveOn.org, a progressive, non-profit, issues advocacy organization and political action committee.

Protests similar to the one in St Cloud are expected to take place across the nation, targeting what MoveOn.org calls the “The Deadbeat Dozen”— General Electric, Bank of America, Google, BP, Amazon, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Boeing, ExxonMobil, FedEx, Goldman Sachs and Chase.

MoveON.org argues these wealthy corporations are doing everything in their power to avoid paying taxes in America.

Co-hosting the protest with Nickolauson (St. Cloud) are students Jessica Wiehr (Litchfield) and Alexandra Casserly (St. Cloud).
