News Release River corridor eventsTuesday, June 15, 2010
Community leaders will host a pair of open house events in June highlighting the importance of the Mississippi River. The events are part of the St. Cloud Urban Area Mississippi River Corridor Plan, a grant-funded effort to embrace the river as it winds through Sartell, Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud. Comments gathered at the open houses will shape the plan's forthcoming recommendations to enhance
the Mississippi River as a community
asset for active/passive recreation, economic development, tourism,
community
events, sustainability and overall quality of life.
The open houses will have information stations and activities about the river, past, present and future. View the event flyer (PDF). Among the many partners in the project are the three cities, the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, Stearns County Soil and Water Conservation District, Benton County and Stearns County. The community focus on the Mississippi River has been spearheaded since 2008 by the Central Minnesota Community Foundation's Emerging Leaders Forum. St. Cloud State's 100-acre campus lines the west bank of the Mississippi in south St. Cloud. The university also owns about 15 of the Beaver Islands, a maze of about 30 islands south of campus.
