St. Cloud State's observance of Black History Month includes music, a cultural night celebration, a panel discussion and faculty presentations. February is the month students, staff and faculty honor nearly 500 years of contributions to American life by people of African ancestry. This year's events:
Bruce A. Henry, a Chicago-based jazz vocalist and music educator, launched the 2010 observances with a Feb. 4 appearance in Atwood Ballroom. The Council of African American Students hosted “Ebony Night 2010: A Celebration of Black History” Feb. 6 in Atwood Ballroom. Speakers and entertainment included Marcellus Davis with the keynote address; “Sounds of Gospel,” by Nu Way Baptist Church choir; poetry; music; video diaries; theatrical performances; and a videographic historical timeline of accomplishments. A panel of students and faculty discussed the election of President Barack Obama Feb. 11 in Atwood Theater.
