ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Glen Tuomaala, director of the St. Cloud State University Husky Sports Band, will be taking over as the new director of the St. Cloud Blue Jackets junior marching band.
This is the second year that the Blue Jackets will be assembling local sixth-grade students to perform at parades in the area. The junior marching band is sponsored by the St. Cloud All-City Marching Band, a program consisting of an award winning marching band, winter guard and winter drumline.
"It’s going to be different working with sixth-grade band members instead of university band members," said Tuomaala. "However, I’ve already learned that regardless of their age, both groups love to play and have fun."
Tuomaala earned his bachelor’s degrees in horn performance and music education from Bowling Green State University and his master’s degree in music education from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is an accomplished educator and musician with extensive marching band and teaching experience.
St. Cloud State believes music is vital to the human experience. Its nationally accredited Department of Music emphasizes creativity and individual student learning, both of which are enabled by a knowledgeable and accessible faculty.
