News Release First-year student succeeds after rough start in lifeSunday, May 17, 2009 First-year student Alicia Shuman is succeeding against all odds. Born premature at less than two pounds, Shuman avoided the fate of some "micro-preemies" -- including deafness, blindness, lung problems and brain damage -- and is now pursuing a degree in nursing. The Eden Prairie, Minn. native and others were featured in People magazine, the St. Cloud Times and other publications. View:
The People magazine story includes photos of Shuman as an an infant and as a Husky Hockey cheerleader.
