University repositions Facebook site

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State University branded its primary Facebook presence June 12 with the address facebook.com/stcloudstate.

The new address is an alias for a 77-character address the university had used since the site was launched in 2007. Other St. Cloud State sites, such as Alumni, Outdoor Endeavors and Athletics, are expected to follow suit.

The Palo Alto, Calif., social networking company launched Facebook Usernames to help friends, family, customers and clients find pages more easily. The new addresses, which resemble traditional Web addresses, replace randomly assigned addresses which contained numbers and symbols.

Five-year-old Facebook is one of the world's leading services for social networking, claiming more than 200 million active users worldwide. 

On June 13, facebook.com/stcloudstate had more than 3,500 fans. The site displays 37 photo albums, 16 videos and assorted news posts, wall photos and comments.

University Communications manages the site to promote St. Cloud State to students, prospective students, employees, alumni and friends of the university.
