Twins sports marketing exec to speak

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Herberger College of Business at St. Cloud State University is hosting the third event of its Emerging Topics Speaker Series on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 4-5 p.m. in Ritsche Auditorium, Stewart Hall. Speaker is Patrick Klinger, vice-president of marketing for the Minnesota Twins. He will address the "Nuts and Bolts of Sports Marketing."
Last season marked the Minnesota Twins organization’s third-best attendance ever, due in large part to Klinger’s leadership as vice-president of marketing for the past 10 seasons.
Since joining the Twins organization in 1999, Klinger has introduced innovative marketing programs and promotions designed to make a trip to a Twins game exciting and memorable for fans young and old. He has managed numerous unique special events including an Opening Day ceremony featuring Minnesota soldiers tossing the team’s ceremonial first pitch live via satellite from a Kuwaiti desert, a tribute to late Twins great Kirby Puckett and numerous playoff games. He also has also been recognized for leading the Twins’ efforts to make new fans in the area’s ethnic and minority communities.
The Twins’ 2008 advertising campaign was broadly recognized as one of the best in professional and collegiate sports. "This is Twins Territory" picked up regional Emmy Awards for best campaign and best commercial spot.
Klinger served as director of marketing at the RiverCentre event complex in St. Paul and director of marketing at Ticketmaster prior to joining the Twins.
He is a board member of Interfaith Outreach, a community-based organization that assists low income families, SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voice of Education) and the Minneapolis Park Foundation.
Klinger graduated from Winona State University and resides in Apple Valley with his wife and two sons.
The Herberger College of Business fourth Emerging Topics Speaker will feature G. Henk Touw, president of Stakeholders Satisfaction LLC, on March 4. He’ll discuss "Global Perspectives: The Nuances of Leading in Multiple Countries."
