Save the date: Winter Institute to focus on China

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – "Sino-American Economic Relations" will be the focus of the 47th annual St. Cloud State University Economic Education Winter Institute on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 26 and 27. Speakers will emphasize the impact of the growing and changing Chinese economy on the U.S. economy, a matter of particular interest at a time when the U.S. economy is in crisis.
Featured speakers are Wing Thye Woo, one of the world’s leading experts on East Asian economics, particularly China, Indonesia and Malaysia, and Nicholas R. Lardy, considered the top Western expert on the Chinese economy. They will speak at 8:45-11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in Ritsche Auditorium, Stewart Hall. Luncheon speaker is Jack W. Hou, president of the Chinese Economists Society.
The institute is sponsored by the St. Cloud State Center for Economic Education in collaboration with Nankai University Bin Hai College, the Chinese Economists Society and the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce. A special feature of the event will be several performances by the Nankai University Bin Hai College Musical Ensemble.

Speakers are Dan Laufenberg, chief economist with Ameriprise Financial, Steve Hine, Minnesota Department of Economic Development, Tom Stinson, Minnesota State Economist, and Professor King Banaian, chair of the St. Cloud State Department of Economics and co-author of the St. Cloud Quarterly Business Report.
There is no charge for the speaker programs, but reservations are required and there is a charge for those who attend the Thursday evening reception or the Friday luncheon.
