Student receives $5,000 to study in Australia

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Erin Bastyr, a St. Cloud State University senior, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship through IDP Education's student mobility scholarship program and Southern Cross University in Lismore, Australia.
Bastyr, an environmental studies major, was chosen from students at three Midwest universities for the scholarship. Bartyr, who hails from Lonsdale, Minn., plans to study digital photography and environmental studies while at the Australian university this spring.
IDP, established by Australian universities in 1969, has nearly 40 years’ experience in international education. Co-owned by 38 Australian universities, IDP places more than 17,000 students into Australian educational institutions each year.
Southern Cross University has a student population of 6,000, offering a variety of courses such as art and humanities, business and computing, education, criminal justice and travel and tourism. St. Cloud State students studying there are also offered an outdoor education class, which includes intensive field experiences.
With 17,000 total students, St. Cloud State has nationally and internationally accredited degree programs as well as internationally recognized faculty in its undergraduate and graduate programs. Study abroad programs are located in Australia, Chile, China, the Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, Sweden, South Africa and South Korea.
