Study eco-tourism in Mexico

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Ruins, reefs, parks, ports, sharks, submarines, trips, tours and more await St. Cloud State learners in Mexico.

The Center for International Studies is registering students for a May 11-25 eco-tourism study trip to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Led by Bel Kambach, assistant professor of geography, the 15-day trip will explore the concepts, practices, impacts and management of eco-tourism. Kambach is part of the Geography Department’s growing travel and tourism program.

Trip study topics include:

• Great Mayan Reef system
• Cruise ship industry
• Mayan legacy and its influence on tourism
• Submarine tourism
• Geology of sinkholes and underground rivers
• Cancun’s 19-mile hotel zone
• Eco-friendly resorts
• Mexican flora and fauna

Because world-class snorkeling and scuba-diving opportunities abound in the Yucatan Peninsula, students will have an option to take PESS 271 Skin and Scuba Diving.
