Feb. 13 - 15 years of V Day: "Until the Violence Stops"
The screening of “Until the Violence Stops” features playwright and activist Eve Ensler and documents how “The Vagina Monologues” grew into an international grassroots movement called V-Day to stop violence against women and girls. "Until the Violence Stops" is a 2004 documentary by Abby Epstein.
Feb. 20 - Debra Leigh - One Woman’s Role in Brown vs. Board of
Education: The Life of Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark
Debra
Leigh, founder and lead educator for the Community Anti-Racism Education
Initiative at St. Cloud State, will discuss Phipps Clark’s research into the negative impacts of segregation and how that research
helped the NAACP win a landmark Supreme Court case.
Feb. 27 - Cheryle Reeve - 40 Years of Title IX: A National Champion’s Story
Coach Reeve will share the story of her career as
an athlete and coach, including her experience coaching the Lynx to the
2011 WNBA championship.
March 6 - Cat Salonek - Recent Activism through the Occupy Movement Improving
Women’s Lives
A community organizer, Salonek will
discuss organizing for social justice as a St. Cloud State student and her
recent formation of Occupy Homes MN, an organization to defend community
members from foreclosures and unjust evictions.
March 20 - Sonia Brummer and Terry Sallas Merritt - Responding to Clinic Violence: Profiles of Courage and the FACE Act
Brummer and Sallas Merritt will discuss legal protections for reproductive healthcare clinic patients and staff, the realities of clinic violence and the role of volunteers. Brummer is a clinic escort program coordinator for NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota.
Terry Sallas Merritt is executive director
of Whole Women’s Health, a Texas-based chain of reproductive health clinics.
March 27 - Maxine Barnett and Peggy LaDue - Challenging
Violence Against Women: Local Leaders Share Their Stories
Barnett and LaDue will cover Minnesota’s progressive
approaches to the battered women’s and anti-rape movements in the 1970s, local
support groups and resources and the impact of the Violence against Women Act. Barnett is a retired executive director of Anna Marie’s Alliance, formerly the Central Minnesota Task Force on Battered Women. Peggy LaDue is executive director of the Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center.
April 3 - Roberta Gibbons - Women’s Safety and Security: What is the Status of Violence
Against Women on Campus?
Gibbons, an assistant professor at Metropolitan State University, St. Paul, will discuss the impact of Title IX on
college sports opportunities for women. She'll also consider Title IX's role in improving women’s
safety on campus. The lecture will cover the Clery Act, Victims’ Bill of Rights
and a blueprint for women’s safety called the SAFE Act.

10 - Joy Friedman and Noelle Volin - Ushering in The Safe Harbor Act: Stopping Sex Trafficking and Prostitution
Friedman and Volin will discuss
Minnesota’s Safe Harbor statute, a victim-centered law that includes
protections for minors exploited in prostitution. They'll also offer other criminal
justice system updates. Friedman is an education/training and outreach manager for Breaking Free, a Minnesota-based non-profit that helps women and girls
escape sex trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution. Volin is staff attorney and public policy manager for Breaking Free.
