Campus and community are invited to the renovated Case-Hill residence hall for an open house 3:30 - 5 p.m. Sept. 18.

A $12 million renovation project, begun in January, recently returned 326 beds to service Fall Semester, ahead of schedule and under budget, according to university officials.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 3:45 p.m. Parking is free on streets adjacent to campus or a dollar per hour at the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.

Case-Hill bathrooms are larger and offer great privacy, according to John Frischmann, construction facilities coordinator.

New air-handling equipment has greatly improved air quality and control over room temperatures, according to Dan Pedersen, director of residential life.

"Constant ventilation and recirculation of air keeps it much more comfortable," Pedersen said.

Among the many updates:

  • Room doorways are six inches wider
  • Data and electricity jacks are nearly doubled
  • New floors, furniture, appliances and window treatments
  • More windows and softer, indirect lighting
  • Improved access and comfort for students with mobility issues
  • Improved kitchen facilities on each floor and in the basement entertainment area
  • Stylish new entry and reorganized lobby
  • A computer-filled tech center just inside the front door
  • Music rehearsal rooms with sound-deadening walls
  • More than 650 square-feet of basement storage is now a multi-use area
  • Video surveillance and a card-access system
