News Release Algae partnership briefingSaturday, August 11, 2012 St. Cloud State is teaming with an algae technology firm to develop business opportunities for biofuels and other algae-based products. University leaders and representatives from Preston-based Algaedyne Corporation will host a briefing and tour 9:30 a.m. Aug. 21 in Brown Hall Auditorium. Attending will be local, regional and national officials. The academic-industry collaborative will explore commercial opportunities aimed at addressing America's national security, energy and food challenges. Algaedyne and St. Cloud State will improve and develop technologies to catalyze agro-business companies producing fuels, dyes, dietary supplements, chemicals and other products. The briefing and tour is part of a national "Summer of Algae" campaign calling attention to commercial markets for renewable and sustainable products derived from algae. The campaign, in its second summer, is the brainchild of the non-profit Algae Biomass Organization. Algae refers to simple plants, such as seaweed and kelp, that are fast-growing and high in fat content. For more information, contact Jodi Kuznia at jlkuznia@stcloudstate.edu.
