Hmong Night 2012

Hmong Night 2012 is at 5:30 p.m. on April 14 in the Atwood Ballroom.
This year’s theme is “Zaj Dab Neeg: Indolence, Courage, & Karma – Folktales of the Hmong.” The evening will showcase Hmong culture, traditions and cultural entertainment with a focus on folk stories of indolence, courage and karma.

Dinner is included and will be traditional Hmong dishes such as white rice, beef stir fry, vegetarian noodles, rotisserie chicken and fruit salad. There will also be Thai chili pepper available for more adventurous attendees.
Entertainment for the evening will include a fashion show, three skits and various folk songs. Nou Blia Thao and Xee Yang will perform a traditional song about the new generations of Hmong youth forgetting their roots. In addition to this, Blia will also perform the story of “Yer and the Tumor” with the traditional Hmong instrument, the "qeej." The guest speaker for the event is Foung Heu, DFL Precinct Chair in Senate District 67 in St. Paul.
The event is presented by the Hmong Student Organization (HSO) and is co-sponsored by Multicultural Student Services (MSS). There are approximately 125 Hmong students at St. Cloud State. HSO is a St. Cloud State student organization that encourages members in all areas of involvement and is a resource for addressing the needs of Hmong students and the Hmong community.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event starts at 6 p.m.
More than 300 people are expected to attend the event. Tickets are available at Atwood kiosk and at the door. Cost is $5 for students and $7 for faculty, staff and the community.
