Acclaimed author to speak
Saturday, April 14, 2012
Maria Rago, co-author of the acclaimed book “Shut Up Skinny Bitches” will speak at 7:30 p.m. on April 25 in Ritsche Auditorium.
The national vice president of ANAD (Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders), Rago is clinical director and founder of Rago and Associates Counseling Services in Naperville, Geneva and New Lenox, Ill.
Rago co-wrote her book with Greg Archer in response to “Skinny Bitch,” a book that glamorized thinness, discouraged people from eating and sought to put down people of all sizes. Rago’s book helps people by providing fresh thinking and a common sense approach to eating and to their bodies.
The book also guides frequent dieters by debunking myths about diets and exposes little-known facts and provides information about body image disorders and eating disorders.
Rago has appeared on the Today show and on Fox News Live and was Prevention Magazine’s Health Hero in March 2010.
The speaking engagement will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a question and answer session with 30 additional minutes for a book signing opportunity.
The event is presented by St. Cloud State’s University Program Board (UPB).
Tickets can be bought at SCSUtickets.com. Cost is $5 for general access and free with an SCSU ID.
