Simulated relief camp
Friday, May 21, 2010
Natural disasters can have a devastating impact on a region, and temporary relief camps are a way for people of the area to find aid.
On June 2-3 Patricia Bodelson, political science professor at St. Cloud State University, and her Global Disaster Relief Policy class will construct a temporary relief camp outside of Stewart Hall and the 51 Building on campus.
An opening ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. June 2. All are invited to attend or visit the camp until it is disassembled at noon June 3.
The camp is a class project and will simulate response to an earthquake. Visitors to the camp will learn how to cook disaster relief food like solar cooked rice and fish from the Mississippi River. The camp will also feature a triage center for the injured and sick.
