Student grant opportunities

St. Cloud State students can receive money to study, do research, teach and travel in one of more than 140 countries.

The deadline for Fulbright Program proposals is Oct. 1. View the application materials and online application.

Now is the time to ask these questions:

• Is there a nation or region in which you have an interest?
• Is there a project you could pursue there?
• What parts of your skill set could be put to work on the project?
• Is there a group that could oversee your work there?

The Fulbright Program, named for the late Sen. J. William Fulbright, is the largest U.S. international exchange program, offering opportunities for students, scholars and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching and teaching in elementary and secondary schools.

Grant lengths and dates vary by country. Consult the Country Summaries for specifics.

In general, grants for 2011-12 . . .

• Are one academic year in length, usually between nine and 12 months.
• Begin no sooner than July 2011 and no later than March 2012.
• Correspond to the academic calendars abroad.
