Haiti teach-in

Educate yourself about Haiti, its people, its past and the current humanitarian crisis at a March 2 teach-in at Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom.

Seven faculty members and a group of students are scheduled to present at the teach-in, which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The students, who are from the Geography Department's travel and tourism program, will make a fundraising appeal.

The free event will help students, staff and faculty understand and assist the Caribbean island nation as it recovers from the devastating Jan. 12 earthquake. Centered west of the capital of Port-au-Prince, the earthquake killed more than 200,000 people.

Among the presenters is Bel Kambach, who grew up in the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. Kambach is an assistant professor of geography and a leader in the university's travel and tourism program.

The teach-in master of ceremonies is Ahmed Fabre, a St. Cloud State student from Haiti.
