ISELF in play
Friday, February 5, 2010
St. Cloud State's top funding priority is under consideration at the Legislature, which went into session this week in St. Paul.
The Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory Facility (ISELF) is in the House and Senate versions of a bonding bill headed for the governor's desk this spring.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty did not include the $42.3 million project in his $685 million bonding request. The House and Senate versions call for about $1 billion in borrowing for construction projects.
The Senate Finance committee began considering its bill this morning. In the House, the Capital Investment committee is scheduled to take up its version Feb. 9. The House Finance committee will hear the bill Feb. 10.
ISELF would have large, open, flexible spaces suitable for multidisciplinary teaching, research and student project development. Among the keys to the building's flexibility: Movable benches and cabinetry that would enable easy space reconfiguration and overhead distribution of services such as electricity and data.
