News Release Musical opens FridayWednesday, October 14, 2009
A musical based on Charles Schultz' Peanuts comic strip runs Oct. 16-17 in the Performing Arts Center recital hall. "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" is a produced by a group of St. Cloud State music students. Directing the 90-minute production is Anna Rooney, a senior music education major from Rockford, Ill. Clark Gesner wrote the words and music for the show, which has been mounted numerous times off-Broadway, on-Broadway and on television. Kristin Chenoweth won a Tony Award playing Lucy in the 1999 revival of the show. Children 11 and younger can participate in a prize drawing by submitting a drawing of a favorite Peanuts character. Performances are 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 2 p.m. Oct. 17. Tickets, which are available at the door, are $12 for adults, $7 for students, children and seniors, and $30 for a family. Proceeds benefit the Music Department's scholarship fund. Tams-Witmark, which licenses the show, describes "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" this way:
