News Release Queers, Jeers and BeersSunday, October 11, 2009
The dean of students at Marlboro College is on campus Oct. 19 to present "Queers, Jeers and Beers." Ken Schneck's multimedia show explores the relationships between alcohol and drug use and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students. The presentation is 3 p.m. in Voyageurs South, Atwood Memorial Center. Schneck, who is a former stand-up comic, will challenge audience members to question their beliefs, become better LGBT allies and make the campus safer for everyone. View the event flyer (PDF). Schneck holds a doctorate from Fordham University. His dissertation discusses the painful meanings of the throwaway slang phrase "That's so gay!" His bachelor's and master's degrees are from New York University. Before joining Marlboro College in 2007, Schneck's career included four years as assistant dean at Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, N.Y., and a stint as assistant director for residence life for the School of American Ballet, New York City. "Queers, Jeers and Beers" is sponsored by UChoose and the LGBT Resource Center. UChoose leads St. Cloud State's effort to reduce high-risk drinking among students, on- and off-campus. Marlboro College, in the Green Mountains of Vermont, is a 63-year-old alternative, liberal arts college with an enrollment of 330 students.
