News Release Campus starting farmers' marketSaturday, August 1, 2009
St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University will launch a weekly Atwood Memorial Center Community Farmers' Market beginning Aug. 31. The collaboration between the university and local growers will promote sustainability by making locally grown foods available to students, employees and the community.
The Atwood Farmers Market is seeking food vendors for the upcoming season. The market will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays on these dates: Aug. 31, Sept. 14, 21, 28 and Oct. 5. Organizers are seeking farms and companies that grow fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers. Other green items such as holistic and organic products may be sold. The university will provide tables and chairs for vendors. Among the growers committed to selling produce is the St. Cloud Community Garden, a campus-community food plot on Fifth Avenue next to the Women's Center.
