Speech/debate team to perform in showcase

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Members of the St. Cloud State University speech and debate team will be performing at the 2008 Fall Forensics Showcase on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. in Eastman Hall 201 on campus. The event is hosted by the St. Cloud State speech and debate program, Pi Kappa Delta Honorary Society and the St. Cloud State Department of Communications Studies.
The showcase will include performances by the following team members: Katlyn Carson, poetry interpretation; Andrea Lovell, impromptu speaking; Thomas Opatz, prose interpretation; Casey Schmoll and Anna Rooney, duo interpretation. Rooney also will be performing program of oral interpretation.
The Forensics Team is one of more than 200 student organizations at St. Cloud State. Participation in speech and debate teaches students important critical skills, including public speaking, interpretive analysis, research methods, organization, leadership, group work and intercultural and critical thinking. The activity is open to any St. Cloud State student in good standing. The team is coached by Scott Wells, Denee Janda, Paul Janda and Mridula Mascarenhas.
