  • The Department of Music prepares students for careers in music and offers diverse musical experiences to all, enriching the musical fabric of our university and community, regionally and globally. Bachelor of Science in Music Education

This program is primarily for those interested in teaching music in the elementary and secondary schools. Entering freshmen are encouraged to seek academic advice early regarding specific requirements in order to plan their program efficiently. Entering students with limited background in applied study, piano skills, and/or music theory should elect additional courses to strengthen those skills.

  • Bachelor of Music

This program is developed to prepare students for private studio teaching and/or further graduate study for careers in professional performance and college teaching.  This degree program is ideal for students interested in performance careers.

This program is primarily for those interested in music as personal enrichment, as background for a career in the music industry or preparation for further studies in music. Suggested Plan of Study (pdf 101k)

Advantages include being able to continue playing your instrument, receive music scholarships to off-set college expenses, attend a school that is less expensive than most, and make yourself more attractive to professional schools (Medicine, Law, Business, etc.)

Music Minor

Music Minor to complement another field of study. 22-23 semester credits with flexibility in class choices including 5 credits of music electives and 2 semesters of an elective performing organization. Consult a department music advisor for complete details.
