Scales (required for both entrance and scholarship auditions)

The Department of Music prepares students for careers in music and offers diverse musical experiences to all, enriching the musical fabric of our university and community, regionally and globally. For all woodwind instruments

  • 2 octave major scales (if instrument range permits), ascending and descending, up to and including 3 flats and sharps.
  • Chromatic scale (ascending and descending):
    • Flute: low d to high g (2 1/2 octaves)-Scholarship applicants on flute: low c to high Bb
    • Clarinet: low e to high e (3 octaves)-Scholarship applicants on clarinet: low e to high g
    • Saxophone low d to high d (2 octaves)
    • Oboe low d to high d (2 octaves)
    • Bassoon low Bb to high Bb (2 octaves)
  • Scholarship applicants should strive for 2 octave major scales when applicable.
