The SCSU Concert Choir is the University's premiere large choral ensemble, committed to the exploration and performance of the finest choral repertoire from the 15th century to the present. One of five choral/vocal ensembles in the music program, the choir is a highly select, auditioned group of approximately seventy singers including music majors as well as students from various other academic disciplines on campus. All members of the choir recognize the important role of the arts in their personal and professional development.

As the major performing ensemble in the choral area, the Concert Choir represents the university at important events, produces recordings, and makes annual tours regionally, nationally, and internationally. In May of 2002, the choir toured Sweden and Norway. Other international venues have included Bermuda, Mexico, the Czech Republic, and various countries in Europe.
Additionally, the choir has performed at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, O’Shaughnessy Auditorium in St. Paul, and at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Performances with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Manhattan Philharmonic, the Dale Warland Singers and with Swedish conductor Eric Ericson highlight further accomplishments of the choir.
The Concert Choir has established a reputation for excellence in performing and programming, leading to invitations to perform at various state and regional conventions of the Music Educator’s National Conference and the American Choral Director’s Association. The most recent appearances were at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Convention in February of 2003 and on the main evening concert program of the ACDA of Minnesota State Convention in the Fall of 2001.
The Concert Choir requires much dedication of its members and proves its worth through the successes of various performances held each semester. The choir rehearses four times a week, which not only builds artistic strength, but also results in the development of strong, personal relationships, creating a positive and enjoyable environment.
Music ensembles tour the state and region every year, with the Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Orchestra engaging in major national or international tours on a four year rotating basis. Our music groups have performed in global venues, including the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Russia, Mexico, and the People's Republic of China. In addition, music ensembles have been recognized by invitations to perform for the American Choral Directors Association, the College Band Directors National Association, the Music Educators National Conference, and in New York's prestigious Carnegie Hall. International music study is also available to eligible music students.
