Laurie Merz teaches private bassoon lessons at St. Cloud State in addition to the MacPhail Center for Music, Augsburg College, and the University of St. Thomas. She currently performs with the Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Sinfonia, and is a substitute musicians with the Minnesota Orcehestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
In 2003 she was the recipient of the Classic Lake Fine Arts Award for Outstanding Achievement as a Musician, Teacher and community Leader. When not teaching she also manages a home-based business supplying bassoonists around the country with quality bassoon reeds. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Western Hennepin County Pioneer Association and Museum.
