Elizabeth Hermanson

A native Minnesotan, Elizabeth Hermanson grew up in the town of Hastings.  She received her Bachelor of Music Education from Millikin University, studying with Brad Holmes.

Following her time at Millikin, Elizabeth taught middle and high school choirs in Minnesota and Wisconsin, serving the communities of White Bear Lake, South St. Paul, and River Falls.  After earning her Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College in 2013, studying with Joe Miller, Andrew Megill, and Amanda Quist, Elizabeth went on to Michigan State to earn  her Doctorate in Choral Conducting, where she is studying with David Rayl, Sandra Snow, and Jonathan Reed.

Her research interests are with women’s choirs, particularly with music for women’s choirs and orchestra from the seventeenth and eighteenth century Venice.  She also has a great passion for community engagement with music ensembles, and is currently working on a project with the MSU Women's Chamber Ensemble and the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force, to raise awareness and promote activism in the music community about this important issue.

She is thrilled to be working with the young women of St. Cloud in the Cantabile Concert Choir, and can’t wait to explore new and exciting repertoire with these talented young women.
