The week has included sessions on practical methods and materials for music educators in the public schools teaching middle school and high school band, choir, and orchestra and has featured special sessions on assessment in the arts, advocating for music programs, jazz pedagogy, and a variety of music technologies for use in music programs across the curriculum.
The Department of Music at St. Cloud State University is dedicated to Teaching, Creating and Performing music and its mission includes the support of music education in the schools. The Summer Music Education Institute is the first step in a strategic plan that includes the reestablishment of music as a CORE part of the public school education.
We want to thank SCSU alumnus Dr. Bruce Pearson for his partnership in making the Summer Music Education Institute a reality, and St. Cloud State University for supporting us in our mission and strategic vision.
