Day Three included continuing sessions in band, choral and string methods and materials for music educators. In the choral sessions participants focused on how to develop and teach better sight reading skills in the schools.
Presenter and MN choral legend Bruce Phelps has written a master series on the subject of sight reading and he led his class through each step of the process for building better sight reading skills in middle school and high school students.
Wendy Barden presented sessions on assessment of arts objectives in the school curriculum. Her background in public education and her years of service to various Minnesota arts organizations has brought her a wealth of experience in assessment.
Bruce Pearson finished his week on Day Three by reviewing the stumbling blocks and challenges in teaching all of the common band instruments and sharing his perspectives gained while teaching in the public schools and from his authoring of dozens of method books for band.
