The first performance of the Husky Sports Band was March 1st, 2006 at Halenbeck Hall for the North Central Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Finals.
Months of preparation preceeded this performance with the hiring of their first director, purchasing of new equipment and music, and most importantly recruiting new band members.
The fans at the first basketball game were very supportive and after the game there was even a group of alumni that stayed and continued to ask for more music (which the band happily provided!). |

Since then the Husky Sports Band has continued to perform for athletic games and community events on and off campus including the 2006 WCHA Final-Five Hockey Tournament. Membership has continued to expand with the addition of student musicians from St. Cloud Technical College, College of St. Ben's / St. John's, and local high school band programs.

The Husky Sports Band was also fortunate to be included in the 2006 SCSU Spring Student Survey which gathered student opinions on the new band program. In response to the general question of whether the sports band will generate greater fan involvement the collected data concluded that: "With respect to the Husky Sports Band, strong majorities feel it will lead to more school spirit and fan involvement. About one in five states they are more likely to attend athletic events because of the band."
