Sports Band Awards

The Husky Sports Band provides quality musical performances for athletic and campus event at St. Cloud State University. We provide a challenging and exciting musical atmosphere for our members and promote school spirit for the campus community.Husky Sports Band members are eligible to earn a $150 Sports Band Award each semester based on their attendance and performance. This scholarship is available to all SCSU and SCTC students; you do not have to be a music major to earn an award.

The Sports Band Award reflects the musical contribution each member makes to campus athletic and community events. Membership requires a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and good attendance.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there an audition?

The band is open to all SCSU and SCTC students, faculty, staff, alumni, and high school students grades 9-12 (with permission from their band director).

2. Is the band a class?

Yes. MUSP 168 is taken by SCSU students either as a zero credit (no cost) or 1 credit class.

Sign up for Husky Sports Band MUSP 168 using the Quick Add menu choice with SCSU computer registration. Choose zero (0000) or one credit (0100).

You should sign up for MUSP 168 with a Special Student Registration Request.

3. How much time does it take?

Evening rehearsals are once a week with performances at selected football, basketball, and hockey games.

The band does not perform at all athletic events.

4. How much does it cost?

Thanks to support from the university, the cost to members is limited to drum sticks, reeds, mouthpieces, valve oil, gloves, etc.

5. What if I need an instrument?

Rental instruments are available from the music department.
