Multi-Cultural Student Services

South Africa

A collaboration between African Studies, Ethnic Studies, Multicultural Student Services and the Center for International Studies, this program runs about two to three weeks and takes place over Spring Break. Port Elizabeth, South Africa serves as the base for this trip with Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University serving as a defacto host for the group. Students will have an opportunity to visit the university and interact with NMMU students as well as visit many sites for which South Africa is known such as the prison that held Nelson Mandela for many years, Robben Island; a trip into the townships including schools and churches; a visit to a wild animal park. This program allows students to visit three major cities in South Africa: Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
