The Department of Mathematics & Statistics and the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology jointly award scholarships each year to students enrolled in one of the 15 major or minor programs offered in the two departments. This scholarship program began in 1974 with a $50 award given to a high school senior who participated in SCSU's Annual Mathematics Contest. Each spring the two departments host a Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Dinner where faculty, staff, family and friends get together to honor the scholarship recipients.
Since 1974, we have granted over 1040 scholarships totaling more than $355,000. In recent years, scholarships have ranged in value from $300 to $1,200. Scholarship recipients and scholarship values are based on several scholarship criteria. These criteria include having maintained a high grade point average (GPA) and having participated in extracurricular activities that represent good citizenship and leadership.
The scholarship program is supported by alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the two departments, by registration fees from SCSU's Annual Mathematics Contest, by department clubs, and by businesses and industries.
