Math Scholarships

The Scholarship Program began in 1974 with a $50 dollar award to a high school senior who participated in the Department of Mathematics annual Mathematics Contest. The program now awards a total of $11,000 or more to students annually through its endowed Foundation account. Since 1974, 950 student scholarships totaling over $288,000 have been presented. The Scholarship Program is supported by donations from alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics Departments; registration fees from the annual Mathematics Contest; department clubs; businesses; and industries.

For the 2004 award ceremony, scholarships ranging from $300 to $1000 were presented to 22 students. Two Freshman Scholarships were also previously presented for $200 and $300. Scholarship criteria include maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) as well as extracurricular activities that represent good citizenship and leadership. A committee selects the recipients of the student scholarships as well as organizes the annual award ceremony.
