Department of Mathematics

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Department of Mathematics at St. Cloud State University is to provide a stimulating intellectual environment for the discovery, integration, application and communication of mathematical ideas, both for students and faculty. We expect our students, through formal and informal course work, to gain technical ability in mathematics and to understand the uses of mathematics in other domains. Beyond this, we are vitally concerned that we convey to our students an appreciation of mathematical thought, and a sense of the role of the mathematical sciences in human endeavors. We will work to assure that faculty have a supportive environment to engage in scholarly and creative activity.

Departmental Goals

Essential to our mission is a curriculum which reflects contemporary standards in the mathematical sciences. Professional associations regularly review national curricular concerns and trends and make curriculum recommendations. In addition, the department undergoes periodic external reviews.  View Goals
