Scholarships
The department offers several scholarships each year for junior and senior students who are admitted to the mass communications major, show promise in their sequence through coursework and activities and have need. A faculty committee reviews applications each spring and scholarships are awarded at a year-end banquet. Most scholarships are at least $500.

Internships
The department offers students internships for 1-3 credits. Students usually complete these as their last class or after they have completed all their other course work. Internships are not required of students, but they are a strong entry on a resume and an important consideration for employment, so are strongly recommended. Students meet with the Internship Supervisor and apply through the department as they simultaneously seek placement with several agencies or organizations where they may wish to do an internship. Once approved by the department and a placement is secured, the student works for 12-15 weeks a minimum of 20 hours per week. The student receives the experience and an evaluation/reference from a professional in the media industry.
