Anoka, MN. Major: Public Relations
Public relations professionals are the elite communicators because they need to communicate a particular message, to a particular audience, at any particular time.
Public relations is both “science and art” as a discipline and the combined use of communication theories with communication practices is perfect for the individual looking for a rewarding yet unconventional 9-5 job.
Our students benefit greatly from a program that emphasizes a strong liberal arts background.
Theoretical and critical thinking skills are necessary to become successful public relations professionals and our program provides students the opportunity to develop critical writing skills, the most crucial and number one skill necessary in the discipline of public relations.
Our students learn the four-step process applied to all aspects of public relations, community relations, event planning, campaign planning, crises management, crises communication and new media communications.
Students considering public relations as a career are encouraged to declare their concentration early in order to select a complementary minor and maximize the variety of courses taken as electives.
Students are also encouraged to participate in the many student organizations offered in the department and across the campus that will enhance and put into practice public relations skills learned in the classroom.
