Company Overview:The Fish and Wildlife Division of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) seeks an intern to assist with website content development and maintenance; media relations; public relations; internal communications; and marketing and promotional efforts. The person who fills this position must have the ability to plan, research, develop and write accurate and engaging content as well as suitable graphical and technical skills to prepare it for presentation on the DNR website and its related social media pages.
Responsibilities:Duties will include but are not limited to: • Assisting with website content planning, production and updates; Participating in content review from marketing, public relations and public affairs perspectives; • Assisting with promotional efforts for hunting and fishing activities; • Assisting the division public information officer with communications duties and responsibilities; • Maintaining web content, including databases, regarding fishing and hunting programs, wildlife and fisheries research activities, management areas, seasons and services. The intern will work directly with the division's public information officer and customer enhancement manager. Regular contact will occur with fisheries and wildlife program staff throughout Minnesota as well as agency communications and information technology professionals. Requirements • Ability to code in HTML, CSS and JavaScript; • Knowledge of journalistic principals and practices; • Knowledge of marketing principles and practices; • Familiarity with Adobe CS4 or CS5 and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; • Strong technical and creative design skills; and • Familiarity with query-driven Web platforms such as JSP, PHP and CFML. While not required, an interest in or knowledge of the outdoors, conservation, fishing, hunting and the environment is beneficial. The DNR's Fish and Wildlife Division manages, protects and regulates Minnesota's fish and wildlife resources by: Recommending fishing, hunting and other wildlife-related regulations; • Conducting census, survey and research projects; and • Promoting habitat protection and development on public and private lands. Position Information This is a full-time, 40-hour per week internship. Hours of work are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at DNR Headquarters in downtown St. Paul. The pay rate is $12 per hour. To be considering for this position, you must be receiving college credit and majoring in mass communications, journalism, technical communications or a related field.
