The department coordinates paid and unpaid student internship opportunities worth 1-3 credits. Internships are not required of Mass Communications students. However, with the growing demand and requirement held by potential employers, internships are a strong selling point on a student’s resume.

Our mass communications students are encouraged to complete at least one internship. Completing two or more internships is a highly prized and growing desirable asset by potential employers.

Our students traditionally meet with the Internship Supervisor and apply for an internship through the department while the student simultaneously seeks placement with several agencies or organizations where they may wish to do an internship, as well.

Once approved by the department and a placement secured, our students work a minimum of 20 hours per week for 12-15 weeks. The internship provides an opportunity for our students to receive the experience and an evaluation or reference from a professional in the media industry.
