Paul's introduction to photography began in high school where he worked on the student newspaper and yearbook.
Within months after graduating,his interest turned into a profession after he was hired as a full-time staff photographer at Minnesota Suburban Newspaper.
After three years of covering suburban events for 33 weekly newspapers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and one year in Denver, Colorado working at another suburban newspaper chain, Paul decided to further his career by attending St. Cloud State University.
He put himself through college by freelancing his skills as a location and studio photographer.
During that time Paul met his wife, Andra, (SCSU '04) who is also an accomplished photographer serving the Central Minnesota area.
After graduating from SCSU Middlestaedt worked at the St. Cloud Times as a staff photographer while freelancing.
He began teaching for the department in 1997 and has taught classes in photography, photojournalism and studio photography. He lives in St. Cloud with his wife and three children.
