The Department of Mass CommunicationsWelcome to the St. Cloud State University Mass Communications Department. Espaņol
Mark Mills, Chair We have worked hard to become the Midwest's premier mass media program. Accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC), we are one of only two nationally accredited programs in Minnesota (the other is the University of Minnesota). We also have an impressive job placement rate. We in the Mass Communications Department are most proud of our many regional and national awards, including our back-to-back 2008 and 2007 first place Emmy for Best Student Newscast from the American Academy of TV Arts and Sciences. We are especially proud of these awards because we were in direct competition with much larger universities like Columbia, Georgia State University, University of Minnesota, University of Missouri, Northwestern and UCLA. What makes our Mass Communications Department unique is the balance between the theoretical and the professional. We teach students what they need to know to start their careers and, more importantly, the skills they need in order to remain competitive in a new media environment. Our professors have a great mix of academic and professional credentials with a combined 300 years of teaching and professional experience in mass communications. We stay current with technology and information in this ever-changing media environment so we can educate our students in the most modern ways possible. Our ultra-modern facilities feature state-of-the-art, digital technology that helps us prepare our students for the high-tech media environments where they will be working. Whether you want to specialize in public relations, advertising, broadcast journalism, video production and radio or print journalism, the St. Cloud State University Department of Mass Communications can teach you what you learn what you need to know to be a professional media specialist. If that is your goal, join the winning team that is nationally known for its excellence in education and career preparation. Mark Mills, Chair |
