I-20 Request for Dependent of F-1 Student

Application Procedures

  1. Complete all sections of the request packet, which includes the following:
    • I-20 Request for Dependent of F-1 Student Form
    • Provide financial documentation
      • The student must prove sufficient funding is available to cover the current academic year’s expenses (information on the cost of attendance can be found at: http://www.stcloudstate.edu/internationaladmissions/costs.aspx)
      • The student must also prove sufficient funding is available to cover the following:
        • First dependent = $5,000.00
        • Each additional dependent = $3,000.00
      • Documents must adhere to the following:
        • Be originals, photocopies, scanned copies or faxed documents printed on bank letterhead and certified with the bank’s stamp or seal; we reserve the right to verify authenticity
        • Be dated within six months of today’s date
        • If financial support will be provided by anyone other than the student, the sponsor must submit a letter in English indicating his/her willingness to support the student
        • All documents must be written In English; if English is not the language in which the bank documents are issued, the bank documents must be accompanied by a certified, literal English translation.
      • If the student is currently participating in approved Optional Practical Training (OPT), then the student must prove sufficient funding is available to cover the following:
        • Living Expenses = $950.00 per month
        • First dependent = $5,000.00
        • Each additional dependent = $3,000.00
    • Provide supporting evidence
      • Dependent’s passport information page
        • The student must provide a copy of the dependent’s passport information page which includes their picture, biographical information, and expiration date
    • Health Insurance Release Form
  2. The student should drop-off or mail their application packet to the Center for International Studies for review.

  3. An advisor at the Center for International Studies will:
    • Review the request packet and email the student to notify them that their request packet has been processed and is ready to be picked up, needs further documentation, or has been denied.
    • Produce a letter of invitation for each dependent issued an I-20 to use during their visa interview.
  4. The student should return to the Center for International Studies to:
    • Pick-up request packet and letter of invitation
