Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
Application Procedures
- Complete all sections of the application packet, which include the following:
- Student Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Form
- Employment letter
- The student requests a letter from the prospective employer on the company’s letterhead which must include the following details:
- name, address, and contact information of employer/site supervisor,
- description of work to be performed,
- start and end dates of employment/appointment, and
- number of hours to be worked per week.
- The student requests a letter from the prospective employer on the company’s letterhead which must include the following details:
- Academic Verification for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Authorization Form
- The student must meet with their academic advisor/faculty advisor/internship coordinator to verify eligibility for CPT in their program of study
- Additionally, the academic advisor/faculty advisor/internship coordinator signs the Full-Time Equivalency Request for F-1 Students Form if engaging in CPT renders the student a full-time student (this form is for internal record keeping purposes).
- The student must register for the required course related to their internship.
- The student should drop-off or mail their application packet to the Center for International Studies for review.

- An advisor at the Center for International Studies will:
- Review the request packet and email the student to notify them that their request packet has been processed and is ready to be picked up, needs further documentation, or has been denied.
- The student should return to the Center for International Studies to:
- Pick-up request packet and sign (in blue ink) their new I-20 before they can begin work.
