International Education Week: Partnerships and Opportunities

 

International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of State, is a time to promote programs that improve international understanding, increase intercultural competency and support the exchange of international students and scholars.

 

To celebrate IEW at St. Cloud State University, we will showcase programs that educate the community on partnerships – both local and international and various opportunities that promote internationalization.

 

Sunday, November 11th

Passport to the World "Around the World in 100 Minutes"

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Ballroom

Time: 4:00 pm-6:00 pm

This is an interactive event geared towards children. This year's theme is Around the world in 100 minutes. Participants receive a "passport" and will get a "visa" stamp from every country (booth) they visit.


 Monday, November 12th

Dinner at Garvey

Location: Garvey

Time: 5:00 pm-8:00 pm

Theme:  Asia. SODEXO will feature a dish from South Korea – Andong JjimDak (Andong Braised Chicken).


Tuesday, November 13th

Education Abroad Photo Contest Promotion

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, kiosk

Time: 10:00 am-2:00 pm

Visit the Education Abroad booth in Atwood to vote for your favorite picture.

 

GoinGlobal Demonstration

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Oak Room

Time: 10:30 am-11:30 am

Looking for a job or internship internationally? Career Services will give demonstrations on how to use the GoinGlobal software to search for job/internship opportunities abroad. International Students can search for companies willing to sponsor H1B visas in the US.

 

Internship Presentation

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Mississippi Room

Time: 11:00 am -12:00 pm

Faculty advisors will learn the nuts and bolts of how to support students seeking internships as well as the immigration regulations necessary to work abroad and locally for international and domestic students.

 

Lunch at Garvey

Location: Garvey

Time: 11:00 am -2:00 pm

Theme:  Europe. SODEXO will feature a dish from Germany – Sauerbraten.

 

Bringing the World to SCSU: Spotlight on J-1 Scholars

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Voyageurs South

Time: 2:00 pm-3:00 pm

A panel of scholars participating in our Exchange Visitor's program will share their academic and personal experiences. Scholars will discuss their research interests and academic work at SCSU.


Wednesday, November 14th

Mini Education Abroad Fair, Short-Term Programs

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, kiosk

Time: 10:00 am-2:00 pm

To promote short-term Education Abroad opportunities.

 

Teaching English in South Korea: From Peace Corps and Beyond

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Voyageurs South

Time: 10:00 am-11:00 am

Dr. Jim Robinson, Professor of Applied Linguistics will discuss his Peace Corps volunteer teaching experience in South Korea.

 

World Drumming Group

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Quarry

Time: 1:15 pm-1:45 pm

The World Drumming Group from the SCSU Music Department will perform a variety of Brazilian Carnival Sambas.

 

Dinner at Garvey

Location: Garvey

Time: 5:00 pm-8:00 pm

Theme: South and Central America. SODEXO will feature a dish from Brazil – Bobó de Camarão (Shrimp Bobo).


Thursday, November 15th

Faculty Fulbright Panel

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Alumni Room

Time: 10:00 am-12:00 pm

SCSU faculty share their insights, stories, and experiences from their participation in the Fulbright Program. The session will also discuss opportunities available through Sponsored Programs that allow faculty and staff to secure funding for projects and research.

Dr. Bodvarsson, Assistant Professor of Psychology will discuss her Peace Corps experience in Benin, West Africa.

 

Looking for $ to Go Abroad?

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Granite Room

Time: 2:00 pm-3:00 pm

Want to study abroad and do not have the $$$. This session will discuss funding opportunities available for students who want to study abroad.

Theme:  Middle East.  SODEXO will feature a dish from Saudi Arabia – Lamb Kabsa.

 

A Year in India as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Granite Room

Time: 5:00 pm-6:00 pm

Anna Schumacher will share her year long experience in India as a Rotary Scholar.


Friday, November 16th

Lunch at Garvey

Location: Garvey

Time: 11:00 am-2:00 pm

Theme : Africa. SODEXO will feature a dish from Senegal – Senegalese rice with Fish.

 

Cultural Café Panama

Location: Centennial Hall Room 100

Time: 3:00 pm-5:00 pm

Students from Panama will give a presentation on their country, culture, and food. Faculty encouraged to bring their classes.


Saturday, November 17th

Husky Cricket Sixers: Cricket Tournament

Location: Halenbeck Fieldhouse

Time: 10:30 am-until tournament play completes

Teams will participate in the Cricket Tournament hosted by the "Husky Cricket Sixers."  Please contact the Husky Cricket Sixers prior to the event to sign-up your team.*

 

Husky Cricket Sixers: Training Session

Location: Halenbeck Fieldhouse

Time: 1:00 pm-3:00 pm

Husky Cricket Sixers will offer a training session for beginners.  Come experience and learn Cricket!

 

India Night

Location: Atwood Memorial Center, Ballroom

Time: 6:00 pm-9:00 pm

Come enjoy India night hosted by the Indian Student Assocation for a night of culture, music, and dance.

Husky Cricket Sixers: Cricket Tournament
