Application Checklist
1. Complete your international application.
Apply online - This is a fast way for you to turn in your initial application, without paying for extra postage for the paper application. Once you submit your online application, you will receive notice within a few days by email that your application has been received and that your supporting documents still need to be submitted.

2. Pay the $20.00 application fee.
If applying online, be sure to have your credit card ready during the online application process. Or, if sending application by mail, send a bank draft, check or money order payable to St. Cloud State University. DO NOT SEND CASH. The application fee is non-refundable. Choose the optional USD $100 Express Fee, and receive your I-20 and acceptance packet via Express Mail.
3. Submit your secondary school grade reports.
Including:
- your date of graduation
- official school stamp or seal
- signature of principal, rector, or other official school personnel
- Transcripts must be issued in the official language and accompanied by a certified literal English translation if English is not the language official transcripts are issued in.
In lieu of grade reports or mark sheets, you may provide an official graduation diploma or leaving school certificate. Requirements vary by country. Check your country requirements here.
4. Submit your university transcripts (if applicable).
Higher education transcripts (overseas and/or U. S.) must be certified with the official school stamp or seal and be signed by the school’s registrar. Transcripts must be sent directly to St. Cloud State University by the issuing college or university in an envelope sealed by that institution. They may also be signed and stamped by the Ministry of Education, Education USA Office or a Fulbright Center. Transcripts must be issued in the official language and accompanied by a certified literal English translation if English is not the language in which the official transcripts are issued. Photocopies, scanned copies or faxed academic records are not accepted.
5. Provide proof of English Proficiency
Submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score report sent directly to us by the issuing agency (ETS for TOEFL or IELTS directly). You may also submit one of the additional English Proficiency options. The TOEFL code for St. Cloud State University is 6679.
6. Provide financial documentation.
As required by U.S. immigration, F-1 international students must submit proof of financial solvency for the first year of their education at St. Cloud State University. Acceptable documents must:
- prove you have a minimum of US $23,500 available to support your education for the first year
- be printed on bank letterhead and certified with the bank’s original stamp or seal; we reserve the right to verify authenticity
- be dated within three months of the application date
- if financial support will be provided by anyone other than yourself, the sponsor must submit a letter indicating their willingness to support you
*If your sponsor is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, they must complete the Affidavit of Support, in addition to supplying supporting financial documents.
The following documents ARE NOT ACCEPTED:
- photocopies, scanned copies or faxed forms, academic records, test scores or financial documents
- bank statements older than three months
- letters stating funds are available without listing actual amount available
- documents showing fixed assets, such as land, equipment and real estate
- notarized copies without official, original bank stamp (or seal) and signature
- affidavits of support from non-immigrants residing in the U.S.

If you have questions about the status of your application, please email us at world2scsu@stcloudstate.edu. Emails are answered within 72 hours, and due to high traffic volume, calls or walk-in inquiries CANNOT be accepted.
- Completed application files are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- We will email you if you are missing any documents. (Make sure your email is on the application.)
- Please add our email address to your “contacts” to ensure that our messages are not auto-deleted.
- If your application is accepted, you will receive an I-20 (for F-1) and an acceptance letter.
- If you are currently attending a school within the U.S., you will need to complete the
Transfer Notification form and ask your current school to transfer your I-20 to St. Cloud State University in SEVIS.
